How long will it take to receive my order?

Production times vary depending on the type of item you order.

Each item will have its production time stated on the product listing.

If you order more than one item, your order will be held until all items are finished.

We do offer rush service for those of you who need their orders sooner.  CLICK HERE for details.

Do you offer a warranty?

All products manufactured by California Collar Co. are backed by a warranty that lasts throughout the useful life of each product.  This includes all leather goods and all of the items in our Mudpuppy collection.  This warranty does not cover blankets, bedding, hiking bells or leather care products.

Should any buckles, rivets or d-rings fail, we’ll repair them at no charge.  If any spots, studs, crystals, gemstones, ornaments or nameplates break, come loose or fall off, we’ll fix those too!

This warranty does not cover the natural aging of materials such as stretching, darkening, cracking, worn finishes, etc.  Remember that leather is a natural material and it is not impervious to the effects of a dog’s life.  To ensure greater longevity, we recommend regular cleaning and conditioning of your gear.

The construction of our collars and harnesses makes it impossible to replace worn out linings.  Because of this, there is no warranty available on that portion of our products.

This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, damage caused by your dog or any other event beyond our control.  Examples of normal wear and tear would be scratches or dings on crystals, ornaments or nameplates and/or the natural aging of leather, including stretching, scuffing, cracking or any color changes.

Our collars, leashes and harnesses are not designed to be used as ‘tie out’ gear.  You’d be surprised how much force a dog can hit the end of a line with, especially if he sees a squirrel 😉  If you are planning on tying your dog to an outdoor line, please be sure to purchase items from a manufacturer that designs products specifically for that purpose.

We do not cover shipping costs for items returned to us for repair.

How long should I expect my collar to last?

A dog collar is a lot like a pair of shoes, and you should expect it to age accordingly.  You wouldn’t expect to wear a single pair of shoes every single day throughout your entire lifetime, and the same goes for your dog’s collar.

More active dogs and those who wear their collars 24-7 will wear out their collars sooner than less active dogs will.  Dogs who are bathed infrequently will also wear out their collars sooner (dirt and dander has a habit of working its way into the leather and degrading the fibers over time).

We find that most of our collars last anywhere from 3 to 5 years, depending on the lifestyle of the dog.  Of course we have lots of customers whose collars last much longer than this, but it’s a good general guideline to go by.

What is your return/exchange policy?

All return/exchange requests must be made within 14 days of delivery.  Please email us at aftercare@californiacollarco.com to make a request.  Our aftercare department will contact you within 24 hours of receipt of your request.


Any items returned to us must be in brand new condition.  Any items that have been broken in, are creased, wrinkled, dirty or damaged will be returned to you and no refund or exchange shall be given.

– these items can be returned for a full refund of purchase price, less shipping fees
– if you’d like to exchange an item, the cost of the exchanged item will be applied toward the cost of the new item
– any items that have been worn or broken in are not eligible for refund or exchange
– items from our “CUSTOM BASICS” collection are not eligible for this policy and will adhere to the “CUSTOM ITEMS” policy

– due to their bespoke nature, we can’t issue full monetary refunds on any of our other items
– a 20% restocking fee will apply to all exchanges
– a 40% restocking fee will apply to all returns

We do not cover shipping charges on returns or exchanges for any reason. If we send you a return shipping label, the cost of that label will be deducted from your refund.

Are your leather goods waterproof?

The leather we use for our products is the same leather that is used in high end equestrian gear so it’s meant to take a beating.  However, leather is a natural material and it does have its limitations.

The brine in saltwater and the chlorine in pool water can leach oils from leather.  Regular conditioning will restore lost oils and help protect leather from drying out.

We don’t ever recommend exposing leather goods to freshwater sources like lakes and ponds due to high bacteria content.  Leather is a porous material and exposure to this type of water can lead to bacteria and odor buildup deep within the fibers.  In order to avoid stinky collar syndrome, we recommend using a collar made of waterproof material for this application.

No worries here!  Our leather goods can withstand this type of exposure with ease.  Although not entirely necessary, we do recommend regular cleaning and light conditioning of leather goods that regularly see this type of water exposure.

As a general rule, you should treat your dog’s gear the same way you’d treat a good pair of work boots.  Cleaning leather exposed to harsh conditions and treating it with a waterproofer will help keep your leather looking its best for years to come.
